Germany through the ages

Although the German Federal Republic was only founded in 1948, the Germanic peoples are naturally a healthy mix of old blood. And, of today’s population some ten percent are foreigners with approximately a further ten percent having foreign roots.

The borders of present day Germany are even more recent. Reunification (some say the takeover) with the Eastern states took place a little over two decades ago. The division of the country was painful for some, the joining of the separate societies more so for many others. But that’s history.

While much soul searching has taken place by older generations, the young live their lives in a far more healthy oblivion of collective responsibility for the past. That’s good for them and for their neighbours. And the world is better off with not just a strong nation but also a patriotic one.
